Why Spemma is not so random or original, but pathetic
'Sup, Spemma haters? You probably know me as DJO4ever from tv.com, which has totally gone downhill since you guys left by the way. Anyways, I can think of no better place to post this rant than here. I didn't even post a review for this movie because I was so enraged. It's not the idea of Spemma that did it; it's how they went about.

I've been writing Spemma for three years; they're one of four plots I have in my current Tobanny fic. I would've been perfectly fine with them. That is, until Holiday Road aired. I was shocked to see that the writer/producer of that episode used an extremely similar scene from one of my fics. It's the same event (barbecue), same location (Emma's yard), set-up for the same UC (Spemma), and the same fallout (Emma yelling at someone in her basement). Emma also ropes Spinner into fixing her bike tire, which is what she wants Kelly to do in HR. I hoped to God that it was just a coincidence. Not so. DTM airs and I see Spemma playing Horse! It's the same couple and the same game in my fic! Spemma playing Horse! Seriously? It's a bunch of bull. Brendon Yorke and Duana Taha are pathetic for doing such a blatant imitation of those two scenes. Duana Taha also wrote a scene where Holly J breaks into school with Declan for a romantic surprise...I wrote that using Tobanny. So basically what they did was ignore  a Tobanny package (we basically just asked for some friendship scenes in season 7, when it was mailed) and take what they liked out of the fics that are tied to it. These writers are desperate, DESPERATE, for material.

The same writer wrote Touch of Grey, which was widely hated by the fanbase so maybe they were even more desperate.

Then of course, there's a wedding in DTM. Get this. I wrote a beach wedding, where Sean is marrying Emma to move on from Ellie. Much like Spinner is trying to move on from Jane. The fic has the same location, on the beach. The fic has a Jay pep talk. Then, there's this from my fic: "She walks towards him in a silk, white dress, flower trim on the bodice, sleeveless, perfect." It's the same freakin' dress Emma wears to wed Spin. The only real difference is of course Sean, and  Jay being the pastor (great, the guy that gave you gonorrhea is marrying you to his best friend).

WHAT OTHER FANFIC HAS ALL THOSE FREAKIN' THINGS, WRITERS?

I never, never, EVER advocated for Spemma to happen.  I never have them get married. In fact, they take about five months to get official in that fic, and the kid Emma's baby-sitting asks if Spemma might get married one day and both panic.

These writers are such hacks. They will steal anything and attempt anything, with little regard to how fans feel. I'm going to put Stefan Brogren in here too. He asked who everybody's fave couples were. Semma and Spane were in the top 3. He asked why Spane was so popular since Jane had cheated on him. So what? The fans didn't make her cheat. Then, a CrAsh fan asked if  he saw a CrAsh album FF made for the Exec, and Stefan said he didn't like them. Who cares if you don't? Be diplomatic and say you didn't see it. That's not even the worst part. He launched into how fans of CrAsh and Sellie should move on. He just likes to throw his opinions at people. He came back about a day later and said the CrAsh fans did a good job. Third, somebody tweeted that they were still crying over J.T.'s death. He said "I doubt it". Who says that to a fan's genuine emotion? The fan wasn't attacking the writers or anything. I know a bunch of Jiberty fans jumped on the showrunners so maybe he's still bitter about that. Who knows with him? But hopefully you see what I'm trying to say. He does not care what fans say half the time or he twists it.

They will steal, slap any ship in the face, and disregard fan tweets left and right.

I'm totally not trying to be mean or uppity or bitter, but if you're going to do something drastic, be classy about it, you know? These are genuine emotions, thoughts, and packages coming to them.

I also kind of posted because I really want people to protect their fanfics. They will snoop in there. I know how hard writers work to do them, and to see them thrown up on a screen in a script that probably took less time to compose, breaks my heart. I would not wish what happened to me on anyone. That's the biggest reason I'm posting.

I hope this all makes sense and it's hard to be articulate when you're angry, but I'd rather get it all out. See you guys.

That Tobanny fic was Cherish right? (If it isn't ignore the rest of this paragraph.) That fic made me wish Tobanny would've happened and I remember the breaking into the school part! I was like I've read something like this before but I can't remember where. I haven't read the sequel yet but I'm going to praise you here, your Cherish fic is one of my fave DTNG fics and its just so well written and had me on my toes with every chapter I read!

Okay now onto what happened. Thats such bullshit! I'm not shocked by this, at all. The fact that the writers would just steal like that is beyond disgusting. Its down right appalling that they would do that. No words can describe how fucked up that is.

BTW I totally agree with you about Stefan Brogren. Hes another tool.
cordelia_copycordelia_copy on July 19th, 2010 11:41 pm (UTC)
Yeah, it's Cherish. Thank you. :D The sequel's looooooong. lol. I'm just thankful you read one of them.

Usually, I would think it was cool that people were breaking into the school. Like maybe two rebels or something. But the fact that it was a member of the Student Council (Holly J/ Toby in the fic) and the drama kid (Declan/Manny in the fic) definitely made my eyebrows shoot up really quick. They put their own spin on it, but since it was written by Duana Taha, who did the ep with the Spemma Horse scene....yeah. I can't really call it coincidence anymore. And why wouldn't they even make the attempt to change the game, like have them do one-on-one? Nope, Horse.

But thanks for forming the community. It's nice to let it all out. :D

LOL Its okay! I'm actually faving it right now so I can read it, I've been meaning to get around to it and I just forget.

Thats what got me too! The fact it was the president/drama kid. It was way too obvious. Duana Taha is a cunt for stealing other peoples ideas and trying to say its her own. That and ruining the god damn show. UGH.

Yes, I'm glad Laura created this comm! Its nice to have somewhere else to vent lol.

Wow! That is absolutely and utterly pathetic. I can't believe the writers would stoop so low to steal material from someone's fanfic and use it on their show. Without even asking permission makes it even worse. That's absolutely disgusting.

& Stefan Brogren is a total asshole. I remember when he was talking about how he didn't like Crash and preferred Crellie over them. Also the numerous times where he implied he didn't care about what the fans thought. Well they should considering we're the reason that the show is on the air. Also I think the Spane comment was directed towards me in particular. I tweeted him Spane and he made that comment about them about a minute later. I bet he came up with the idea of Spemma and was just bitter, worried and mad. Semma & Spane being in the top 3 was a probably huge ego killer for him and at that point he realized how many people were going to hate the movie.
cordelia_copycordelia_copy on July 20th, 2010 01:08 am (UTC)
Yeah, and then Craig cheated on his girlfriend to be with Ellie in DGH. As long as Stefan is directing the episodes, he's fine with cheating. You're right. He probably loves Spemma and hated that Spane made it. For the record, I totally love Spane. They're the only season 8 couple I can stomach, and I thought they were the most likely to be married. I just don't get it. Did you tweet him anything after he made that comment about Spane?
Laura: Spane // First Daterentxl0ve on July 20th, 2010 04:36 am (UTC)
I know right? Stefan is such an asshole they really need to give him a break from writing. He's messed up this show is so many ways. Every episode he directs is horribly unrealistic aside from Beat It. No I didn't bother wasting my energy because I wasn't interested in hearing a rude remark from him.

Wow, WHAT? That is seriously fucked up. I write fanfiction and have done Degrassi RPGs in the past myself, and there have been a couple really minor things that I've written, or my friends have written, that suddenly wound up being canon, and it made us all raise our eyebrows, but it was hard to imagine they'd actually stoop so low as to steal from fanfictioners and RPers who put all this effort into stories because they love (or, well, at this point, like) the show and get virtually nothing in return. But considering the god-awful writing of the past 2 seasons, I wouldn't even doubt it now. I'm glad that I very rarely write about any of the newbies but seems like they'll steal anything at this point. :\

I also just got a reply from Stefan Brogren after telling him the Degrassi movie sucks. He said "knew you'd say that." I don't even know what that means.
cordelia_copycordelia_copy on July 20th, 2010 03:41 am (UTC)
I feel ya, thinkorange127.

Wow. Someone else did the same, and Brogren tweeted "Weeeeeeeee." Is it possible for him to act like a grown-up and take constructive criticism?

This is why this show can't even get a Teen Choice nomination anymore. LOL. They keep pissing people off with their limp writing. Then, Stephen Stohn was bragging that Degrassi was #1 trending or whatever. So what? Glee gets Emmy noms. Pretty Little Liars gets Teen Choice nods, amazing reviews, and twice the viewers. Bwah!
Laura: Spane // Graduationrentxl0ve on July 20th, 2010 04:45 am (UTC)
I've been reading his replies to the angry fans and all of them have been disrespectful and immature. He just can't think of anything better to say because I think he might be starting to realize what a mess he created by putting the two together. I wish he would fix it, but I doubt it because it would make him look wrong and he doesn't like being wrong.

The only awards Degrassi will be winning anytime soon are Razzies. DTM pretty much qualifies for every single category that they have. I'd nominate Shane and Miriam for Worst Onscreen Couple and Stefan for Worst Director, but I think you have to pay or something. It's worth the money, but I just don't have it.

Oh and I love how he said he was going to bed over an hour ago and he's still responding to tweets.

On some level I just find this hilarious. Says a lot about how much they thought about this ship if they just stole most of it from Fanfic.

Worst part is the fanfic is 175853232434435 times better.

:(
aussiegirl95 on July 21st, 2010 11:15 pm (UTC)
Ok, you're right. That totally sucks that he stole your idea. But about the thing with Stefan Brogren "disregarding fans," I don't blame him. Why would he care about a fan's emotions? It's JUST A SHOW! I admit, Degrassi is awesome, but there's something wrong with you when you're so obsessed with it that you take it personally when the show comes up with an idea you disagree with. Stefan Brogren has a life, and when thousands of annoying fans are criticizing him for something as pointless as who's dating whom, why wouldn't he get pissed off?
cordelia_copycordelia_copy on July 21st, 2010 11:50 pm (UTC)
Because the fans are essentially supporting what he throws on the screen. If he can't take criticism, he's not an artist. Plus it's not just the couple. He mocks almost EVERY fan post. He should just ignore it. That's what his co-worker Stephen Stohn does. I don't see him "pretending to cry" when a fan tweets that they hate Spemma. He's in his thirties and should act like it. Plus why would you comment on a package you haven't seen? CrAsh fans spent months on that. Just say you haven't seen it.
